Metavillage Mint -- January 11 on Solana

A 3D metaverse project launches with lore building in the blockchain.

Metavillage Brings Another Unique Metaverse Play to Solana

The number of metaverse projects is growing on Solana and it's easy to see why. The cost of projects can be reasonable for buyers and builders can build and launch quickly, adding as they go.

What I've been impressed with is the quality and speed of building in many of these projects and today I want to highlight the upcoming mint of Metavillage.

The Metavillage comes to life

Metavillage aims to be a metaverse project that brings the social aspect to the forefront. The video below lays out some of the lore the project is building into the project from the start.

Sneak peeks of NFT art have been impressive and I like that they're showing raw development footage, as you can see below.

Showing behind the scenes is a way of showing that a team is really building. And in the case of this project, they seem to be building an incredibly extravagant and well thought out world.

There are also loose ties to legitimate projects on Solana, like Sol Moms, Angomon, and Bounty Hunter Space Guild. Fractals has also done a giveaway of a custom Fractal HQ NFT.

The Metavillage game

A game is also being built that's intended to allow players to build up their village over time. Players can earn goods and upgrades through owning their village for a long period of time or by playing the game. Coins will be given to NFT holders and used as currency, although it won't be available for purchase, as some other tokens are (as of yet).

  • Coins are earned for activity

    • There are daily rewards for owning a village

      • Daily rewards increase each day a villa is held in a single wallet

    • Players can earn coins on quests

    • Engagement with the community on Discord earns coins

  • Upgrades can be purchased for coins

  • The rank of a villa is the sum of the coin value of all upgrades

There are 14 neighborhoods with unique terrain and digital proximity. There is lore behind each neighborhood, including traditions and shared vocabulary. Details of the lore are building and on Discord, the team has indicated that the community will build this lore themselves.

Neighborhoods are divided into districts, which is like your digital family for social interaction. What exactly that interaction looks like, but the social aspect is foundational to the project.

The Mint

Minting will take place at https://metavillage.app. The details are falling into place at the last minute, but there's a lot left to be revealed and built.

If you mint a Metavillage, you get:

  • A collectible 3D Metavillage home

  • A digital place in a neighborhood, district, and block

  • Villa page

    • Upgradable web page in Metavillage

    • Display NFTs in a gallery

    • Customizable build

Active participants in the community have been given early access as Knight to minting to ensure active users are involved in the game. In total, 8,400 villas will be minted, split into 14 neighborhoods, each with four districts, and 150 villas per district. The team notes "Dunbar’s number: a limit to the number of people with whom any individual is able to sustain a stable or meaningful social relationship (considered to be roughly 150)."

The mint will be broken down like this.

  • Mint: Heroes, Knights, and Moderators

    • When: January 11 at 11:00 p.m. ET

    • Price: 1.8 SOL

    • Includes 500 coins

  • Mint: Bards

    • When: January 12 at 11:00 p.m. ET

    • Price: TBD

  • Mint: Public

    • TBD

If that doesn't seem like a lot of mint detail it's because it's not. The Metavillage team is keeping a lot of information close to the vest and seems to be hand-picking people it wants to mint (linked to Discord activity). If I were building a community-driven project, this is a strategy I may choose as well.

The good and the bad of the Metavillage

I like a lot about the Metavillage project and community and the art is incredible, so far. I'll start with the positives of this project and why I'm interested in owning an NFT.

  • Great 3D art

  • Innovative community and quest concept, which could lead to active game play

  • Incorporating NFTs and identity from other projects is a great way to work with, rather than compete with, other projects.

  • The story behind the project is appealing and could grow over time. If done right, this could be a project that has active participants organically building the world's lore.

What's not to like?

  • So far, this is being billed as a metaverse project, but it doesn't seem to be quite that...yet. Players can't walk around the village or invite others, like they can on Solana Town, but the potential for this kind of interaction is possible given the 3D build.

    • Like a lot of projects, this is a bet on building something bigger in the future. I could see this being an addictive game, building lore and adding quests in the metaverse long-term. That's why it's a high-risk, high reward.

  • The team is largely anonymous. They're building in public, but not revealing themselves and I have to wonder why? Again, not uncommon on Solana, but concerning.

I plan on watching the performance of this project post early mint closely. If an NFT hits the secondary market at a reasonable price I may be interested in buying it. But I think there will also be lots of supply available in the coming weeks as the project starts to find its place.

The key to this NFT, like most others, is that the team keeps building and the community keeps growing. If it does, this could be a huge winner long-term. If the anon team disappears, it'll be a rug. But they've gone to an awful lot of effort building this project to rug and that's why I ultimately think this project has a solid chance to be a winner.
